Interview with Author K.A. Cummins

  • Tell readers a few things about yourself.
    • A few things about myself—that’s a pretty open request. How about fun and random things?
    • I have over a million points on Khan Academy because it was fun. I find more joy in doing good things for others when they don’t know it who it was. And small talk is my Achilles heel, but I do try.
  • Did you always want to write?
    • Writing has always been an outlet for me, second only to painting and sketching. It started with poetry and transitioned into fiction during my twenties. I still dabble with poetry, but storytelling is my main focus these days.

Snow Globe Travelers

Interview with Author K.A. Cummins
  • What book or article are you currently working on or just released?
    • I’m working on a middle-grade science fantasy series, Snow Globe Travelers. The first book, Samuel’s Legacy, released at the end of April, a companion activity book for it will release on August 22nd, and the remaining three books in the series are underway. The plotlines are a tangled web, so I’m working on all three at the same time.
  • What advice do you have for young writers?
    • Pray. Let God guide you. Don’t compare journeys. Success is reaching the destination intended for you.
  • Do you write in silence or with background noise/music?
    • Both. Music can be a great source of creative energy while brainstorming and plotting, but silence works best for getting the words onto the page.
  • What do you want your readers to take away from your books/writing?
    • Each story is different. But in each, I try to incorporate some piece of our wonderfully diverse and complicated existence intertwined with the essence of God’s love. These days my stories use a lighter tone, but a few, like The Warehouse Tour, use a darker tone to do this—like an inverted picture or film negative
  • Did you dream of being a writer/author when you were young?
    • I grew up with a more practical view of work. The writing was more of a personal hobby until college. College is when I started seeing how possibilities could become reality.
  • Where do you get your inspiration to write?
    • All blessings come from God. Sometimes the inspiration finds me while driving or enjoying nature, or even while folding the laundry. My mind is always churning.
