Last Words

I can’t remember my dad’s last words to me. I wish I did. He loved me. I know. He told me so. Every day. Multiple times a day. Then he showed me in countless other ways. I love you, those were probably his last words.

But my mother-in-law was the complete opposite. Once she told me that she was my worst nightmare (Yikes). And she meant it. Not once did she tell me. Until she did.

The first time and her last words to me–I love you, Lorrie.

Boom. There it was. The words I waited a decade to hear. And magically, it erased all the times she didn’t.

Her last words became my first thoughts of her. Beautiful thoughts.

So, the moral of the story:

Tell someone you love them before it’s too late. And she did.

Let your words speak life…And love…And hope…And joy…And kindness.

Why wait?

I’m thankful for a lifetime of love and last words that are warm and fuzzy and full of love.
